Our Story

I’m David Cook, founder of Black Swan Excavating. I’ve spent over 20 years in the construction industry, starting as a concrete foundation labourer at 12 years old and working my way through the trades.

After nearly a decade in plumbing and gas fitting, I earned my Journeyman certifications in both and advanced to running projects as a foreman. During that time, I was recognized as the best plumbing foreman on staff.

What I saw firsthand was the critical role of excavation and groundwork. When the groundwork was efficient and accurate, the rest of the project stayed on schedule and on budget.

When it wasn’t, everyone was scrambling to catch up and cut corners. That realization led me to launch Black Swan Excavating—because I knew I could bring real value by focusing on the stage that makes or breaks a job
